Institutional Director of Human Resources

San Juan, Mayagüez & Miami, Florida

As the Chief Human Resources officer for the University, provides strategic leadership and direction to all facets of human resources management as it pertains to faculty and non-faculty staff in all units of the University. Directs the management of the various component activities of the University’s Human Resources Department, ensuring that all HR programs and initiatives are integrated and effective in supporting the overall mission, goals, and objectives of the institution. Directly participates in institutional planning and decision making as a member of the University’s Executive Team, and provides broad administrative leadership and coordination as designated by the President.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field or at least 10 years of experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • SHRM- CP or SHRM -SCP desirable.
  • Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of contemporary principles of human resources management and academic personnel practices.
  • Skill in design, implementation, and evaluation of employer-sponsored benefit programs.
  • Ability to interpret and advise on the application of EEO/AA laws and regulations to public sector faculty/staff hiring processes.
  • Ability to analyze and assess training and development needs.
  • Knowledge of computerized information systems used in human resources applications.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations and employment policies and procedures.
  • Skill in developing and implementing salary administration plans and programs.
  • Knowledge of federal and state wage and salary laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of faculty and/or staff hiring procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Knowledge of organizational development theory and practices.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Employee development and performance management skills.
  • Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques.
  • Strategic planning and performance measurement skills.
  • Ability to interpret business and operational needs and develop integrated, creative solutions.
